The historical trajectory of this neighboring nation begins with the migration of brutal tribes from Central Asia roughly 1,100 years ago. Their establishment in the region as Turkey now, was based on violent dominance over ancient civilizations—most notably the Greek civilization, which serves as the foundation of European and Western culture. In contrast to the modern Western world, which managed to overcome the traumas of two World Wars, open its borders, and build societies centered on tolerance and multiculturalism, the political legacy of our neighbor often remains tied to practices of enforcement.
In the 21st century, we observe a phenomenon where a large segment of their society—including politicians, academics, and ordinary citizens—is guided by a nationalist rhetoric and highly selective historical narratives. Through this process, there is an anxious search for a unified identity, which frequently clashes with international law, established alliances, and the necessity for peaceful coexistence.
